A cluster of Scottish towns around the River Tay and the Fife Peninsula in what was once Pictish Scotland offer many heritage sites. Towns such of Stirling, Perth, Dundee and St Andrews are scenic enough and far enough from Edinburgh to justify regional stays instead of day trips.
