Conwy Bridges Photos

The "Three Bridges" in Conwy are Thomas Telford's suspension bridge (1826), Robert Stephenson's tubular railway bridge (1848) & the road bridge (1958), all of which span the Conwy River next to each other. The Telford suspension bridge, one of the first road suspension bridges in the world, was designed to fit into the architecture of Conwy Castle to which it is anchored at one end. Stephenson's tubular railway bridge, built to speed the transport link between England & Ireland, was a pioneer in the use of wrought iron in its structure. The road bridge was an attempt to solve Conwy's traffic congestion problems.
