Conwy, Wales Photos

Conwy, situated on the Conwy River, which leads to the Irish Sea, in north eastern Wales was settled after the construction of Conwy castle (late 13thC) by King Edward I, as part of his effort to consolidate control after his conquest of Wales. Along with the very impressive castle ruins, Conwy's town walls (open for walking), with its 22 towers, are the most complete in Britain. A short walk from the castle is the harbor promenade and the historic town. Most of the buildings on the High St are 19thC, but others are far older.
Once a major port for the export of slate, the harbor, with its many pleasure boats, is now a popular spot for both locals and tourists to gather & enjoy local food such as fish & chips or mussels for which Conwy is well known.
