Mississippi River Road Plantations Photos

Over 170 original photos of Mississippi River Road Plantations. There are two routes between New Orleans & Baton Rouge, LA: Interstate 10 & the scenic, historic River Road along the Mississippi River. When the French divided the agricultural land in their Louisiana Territory, they gave each property a section of river front with a rectangular or pie-shaped plot running back from the river. Consequently, the planters built their houses or mansions with one door on the Mississippi for visitors & a second onto their plantations. Today, tourists drive the River Road to view & tour the heritage mansions & historic villages.
