Destrehan Plantation on Mississippi River Road Photos

Destrehan Plantation (1787 & 1840) (13034 River Road in Destrehan, LA) is the oldest plantation house in the lower Mississippi. It is strongly linked to history in that owner John Noel Destrehan was appointed to the Territorial Legislature (1806) by Thomas Jefferson & it was here that slave rebellion tribunals of 1811 took place. The house has been restored with antiques to its historical status. It is open for tours, including the slave quarters & separate kitchen which gives Creole cooking demos.
