Kansas City & Independence, MO Photos |
Kansas City and the neighboring town of Independence sit at a point where the navigable Missouri River turns north. Early American migrants to North America's western frontier needed to disembark here, acquire a wagon and supplies, and trek along the Platte or Kansas Rivers, depending on destination. Thus Kansas City and Independence grew wealthy as supply points. Railroads later followed these trails making Kansas City Station one of the busiest in the USA. |
