The New Bedford Whaling Museum on Johnny Cake Hill opened in 1916. The museum's central showpiece is the Lagoda, an almost-full scale model (1916) of an 1826 whaling ship. The Museum outlines the history of the American whaling industry and the important role played by New Bedford.
