Plas Newydd House, Llangollen Photos

Plas Newydd house and gardens in the town of Llangollen in North East Wales was the home of two upper-class Irish women: Eleanor Butler and Sarah Ponsonby. They lived together at Plas Newydd for 50 years starting in 1780. Over the decades, the sisters enlarged and completely remodeled their home to reflect Gothic style. The interior incorporates a profusion of oak carvings re-claimed from broken up furniture and church fittings, plus leather wall hangings and stained glass. Their collection is one of the largest of its kind and saved art which would otherwise have ended in out-of-style trash heaps.
