Caernarfon Castle & Town Photos

Caernarfon Castle (late 13thC) was built by King Edward I, one of the 17 he constructed to protect his conquest of Wales from hostile Welsh. The Castle looms over the port on the banks of the River Seiont. In current times the Castle is best known as the site of the investiture of Prince Charles (now King Charles III) as Prince of Wales in 1969, an office created by Edward I.
Caernarfon town has been a settlement since Roman times, but its present town plan dates from the construction of Caernarfon Castle. Its narrow streets with many heritage buildings make for a nice stroll.
