Peabody Essex Museum, Maritime Collection, Salem, MA Photos

The Peabody Essex Museum, founded 1799, has expanded from the core East India Marine Hall (1825) which held exotic objects brought back from around the world by early Salem ship captains. In 2003 the Peabody expanded into a showcase building designed by architect Moshe Safdie. A large part of the Peabody's collection centers on Maritime related decorative arts and history.
