Chaise Longes & Day Beds Photos

A chaise longe (French for long chair) is used for reclining in informal settings like bedrooms or outdoors. A chaise longe has the backrest of an armchair, while the seat is elongated to support the legs (sometimes built as a detached section like a cushion. A day bed is a narrow bed with a headrest at one end. Day beds are often placed across the foot of a bedstead in a bedroom & used for afternoon naps. Historically day beds were important because getting dressed with corsets and doing makeup was so involved that changing to get into a regular bed was impractical. Grecian Settees were also used for these purposes.
