Porta Nigra, Trier, Germany Photos

Porta Nigra (170CE) is a four story Roman city gate & fortification built at the northern entrance to Trier, the most important Roman relic in Germany. Constructed of sandstone without mortar, the gate is notable for its massive towers and multi-level arcades. Put to different uses over time, Porta Nigra was restored to its original form by Napoleon in the early 19thC.
