Alter Markt & Old Town Köln Photos

The Alter Markt is on the site of praetorium, or Roman Governor's residence. In the Middle Ages the area became the Jewish Quarter. Remains of the praetorium and Jewish baths are accessible. The Historic City Hall with its Gothic tower is located on Alter Markt. The downtown of Cologne is a mix of ancient city walls & modern structures.
