Bauhaus, Dessau, Germany Photos

The Bauhaus was a post WWI German movement of teachers & students dedicated to inventing & building modern designs for practical crafts and even buildings which could be mass-produced. As Nazis took control of Germany, they shut down the Bauhaus centers due to the movement's leftist leaning and the fact that Bauhaus designs were considered degenerate compared to the Nazi Germanic design ideals. The leftist industrial town of Dessau became the main Bauhaus center after the movement was forced out of Weimer. Bauhaus built several prototype buildings still to be seen in Dessau including its famous workshop complex (1925-6) by Walter Gropius. The Nazis forced this campus to close in 1933. Several structures have been restored or rebuilt after WWII.
