Presidential Yacht USS Potomac, Oakland, CA Photos

Built as the Coast Guard Cutter Electra (1934), this ship was converted to the USS Potomac which served as the modest Presidential Yacht for Franklin D. Roosevelt (1936-1945). The modifications which were made to the ship to accommodate the disabled Roosevelt reveal something about the President's personality. After Presidential service it was owned as a disco ship by Elvis Presley, by a drug runner, & has now ended its career as a seaworthy museum ship. The ship is docked at Jack London Square.
