Flavel House, Astoria Photos

Captain George Flavel (1824-93) got his start in 1850 piloting ships over the tricky sand bars at the mouth of the Columbia River. From there he went on to land development, banking, lumber mills and finally built a Queen Anne-style mansion in 1885 which is a museum today.
