Vicksburg National Military Park USS Cairo Museum Photos

The USS Cairo was a Union Civil War ironclad gunboat which became the first ship sunk (1862) by an electrically detonated mine. It was raised from the bottom of the Mississippi River and now sits under a permanent tent on the ground of the Vicksburg National Military Park next to a permanent USS Cairo Museum building which houses the artifacts of naval life found within the wreck.
