King Henry VIII Photos

Ruled England 22 April 1509 - 28 January 1547. Henry VIII is best known for his six marriages, and for having two of his wives, Ann Boleyn & Catherine Howard, executed on questionable charges of infidelity. Henry's most significant impact on British history was his break with the Roman Catholic Church after its officials persistently refused his petition for an annulment (similar to a divorce) of his first marriage to Catherine of Aragon of Spain because she did not provide him with a male heir to the English throne. Henry then established the Church of England (Anglican Church) headed by the English ruler.
