The Pre-Raphaelite Movement during Victorian times in England was started by the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood in 1848: by William Holman Hunt, John Everett Millais, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, William Michael Rossetti, James Collinson, Frederic George Stephens & Thomas Woolner who essentially believed that artists after Raphel were too mechanistic. Pre-Raphaelites wanted to return to painting with abundant detail, intense colors & complex compositions. Many other English artists, including many from the Arts & Crafts movement were influenced by the style. |
