John Knox House Museum, Edinburgh Photos

John Knox House (1556) is one of the oldest houses on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh. There is no record or evidence to prove or disprove that John Knox ever stayed in this house. Over the years, the legend grew that he presented one of his thundering speeches to the people of Edinburgh from a bow-window on the house, overlooking the High Street. The Knox connection preserved the heritage structure from demolition. The house occupies a tactical point in Edinburgh, as it is next to the original Netherbow - the fortified city gate that was the grand entry to Auld Reekie from the north, which was demolished in 1764 as the High Street was widened.
