Detroit Institute of Arts Diego Rivera Court Photos

The Detroit Institute of Arts and its patrons commissioned Diego Rivera to paint the central grand marble court frescoes called the Detroit Industry cycle (1932-33). Given Rivera's leftist philosophy he depicted the equality of workers and managers, the benefits and horrors of the technologies involved, and other details which displeased some of the patrons. The murals were nearly even destroyed during the McCarthy era. Today they stand as a powerful statement and a great work of art.
