Great Plains Transportation Museum, Wichita, KS Photos

Wichita was once served by several rail lines, starting in 1872. By the early 1900s there were so many trains crossing or stopping across Douglas Ave. that town built a viaduct (1914) and Union Station (1914) to consolidate and separate rail traffic. Of the original depots, Union and the Rock Island Railway Depot (1887) still remain as heritage sites. The viaduct now hosts the collection of the small Great Plains Transportation Museum.
