Grouseland (1803) (3 West Scott St.) was designed by William Henry Harrison when he was Governor (1800-12) of the American Indiana Territory. Grouseland was designed to impress the Indian leaders who were invited there to cede their lands to the United States. The Counsel Room was used for the Territorial Legislature for a year and for conferences with tribal leaders, though Tecumseh refused to enter Grouseland for symbolic reasons. Grouseland is now run as a house museum with many original items belonging or relating to Harrison.
