Wedgwood Black Basalt (1768) Photos

In 1768, Josiah Wedgwood seeking to replicate black ceramics then being excavated from ancient Rome, created a fine-grained stoneware by mixing manganese & an iron oxide rich coal slurry to clay. Wedgwood called these products Black Basalt.
