Meissen - Solid Color with White Quatrefoil Scenes (1730-50s) Photos

In the 1730s-50s, Meissen started making dishes with distinct solid colors (red, yellow, blue, purple, gold leaf) with baroque shaped white patches (e.g. quatrefoil) in which a scene was painted. Early versions used oriental scenes, but these were later replaced with romantic scenes derived from French painter Watteau. The solid color background was sometimes enhanced with fish scale-like patterns. Handles were sometimes sculpted.
