Nazca Culture of Peru Art Photos

Nazca culture (aka Nasca) (c100 BCE - 800 CE) on the southern Coast of Peru is famous for the Nazca Lines which are huge figures created by clearing stones from ground level dirt paths. They are often best seen from the air. However, Nazca peoples also decorated their own style of ceramics differentiated from other ancient Peruvian peoples by their use of larger areas of colored shapes to construct their designs. Nazcas did however use the stirrup handles and similar shapes used by contemporary Moches to the North and Chavins who preceded them.
