Pont du Gard, near Nimes Photos

The Pont du Gard (1st C CE) over the Gardon River is an elegant Roman bridge consisting of three levels of arches. It was built as part of an aqueduct which brought water from the town of Uzès to the Roman town of Nimes. The Pont du Gard museum was built recently to explain how the bridge and aqueduct were built plus other aspects of Roman water systems.
