Maison Carrée, Nimes Photos

Maison Carrée Roman temple (c2 CE) sits on the ancient Roman forum square and serves as the signature building of the town of Nimes. This well-preserved structure inspired Thomas Jefferson for his design of the Virginia State Capitol and thus became the model for the Neoclassical movement in the early United States.
