Strasbourg Faience Photos

The Strasbourg-Haguenau company in Strasbourg, France, was founded by a Dutch ceramicist, Charles-Francois Hannong in 1709. The company made pipes & ceramic stoves and then moved on to faience dishes & figures by the 1740s. After a decade they applied for a license to make porcelain, but Sevres which held the French monopoly turned them down. Thus in 1755, they moved to Germany as the Frankenthal Porcelain Factory but went bankrupt in 1780.
