Montjuïc & 1929 Universal Exposition, Barcelona Photos

Montjuïc was developed as the site of the Exposición Universal de Barcelona (1929). Still standing structures include Plaça d'Espanya fountain, Venetian towers, Fira de Barcelona, Magic Fountain, Palau Nacional (now Art Museum), Ludwig Mies van der Rohe's German National Pavilion, the Olympic Stadium, Graphical Arts Centre (now Museum of Archeology of Catalan), Centre of Agriculture (now Theatre Llure), Greek Theater, Poble Espanyol and other works. While many architects participated the overall concept was created by Josep Puig i Cadafalch. The expo was originally planned for 1917, but was delayed to 1929 by World War I and its consequences. These original photos show these structures in the context of modern structures which now surround them.
