Parc Güell by Gaudi, Barcelona Photos

Parc Güell was conceived (c1900) to be a cluster of luxury housing set in an English Garden by Eusebi Güell patron of Antoni Gaudí. As it turned out, the area was considered just too far from the center of Barcelona, so in the end only two houses were built. However, Antoni Gaudí did build several supporting structures prior to this outcome. These include a Reception pavilion & a Gatekeeper's pavilion both (1900-3), a Plaza (1907-13) ringed by Gaudi's tiled benches and supported by Neoclassical columns of Sala Hipóstila (Hypostyle Hall), plus various walkways and artistic stairways. The land was eventually turned over to the city of Barcelona which runs it as a free public park.
