Feldherrnhalle, Munich Photos

Feldherrnhalle (1841-4) was built to honor the Bavarian Army by King Ludwig I after the example of the Loggia dei Lanzi in Florence. Significantly this was the site at which several early Nazis were shot during the Putsch of 1923. When the Nazis took power they set up a monument which they required every citizen who passed to give the Nazi salute. However, the hall has a street behind it which many citizens took to using to avoid giving the political salute.
