Brandenburg Gate, Berlin Photos

The Brandenburg Gate (1788-1791) by Carl Gotthard Langhans was commissioned by Frederick William II of Prussia as a Gate of Peace. The Winged victory riding a quadriga chariot (1793) by Johann Gottfried Schadow atop the Gate was stolen (1806) by Napoleon & taken to Paris after his occupation of Berlin. It was not returned until 1814.
