Empire Mine State Historic Park, Grass Valley, CA Photos

The Empire Mine (1850 -1956) now a California State Historic Park in Grass Valley, extracted 5.8 million ounces of gold. Visitors see the surface structure of an inclined mine shaft which winched a train down 4,600 feet, gold extraction equipment, offices which ran operations, and a posh clubhouse which sits atop the deepest, largest mine (367 miles / 591 km of tunnels ) in California.
