Christopher Columbus Photos

Christopher Columbus (1451-1506) a sailor born in Genoa convinced Ferdinand & Isabella of Castile to fund his 1492 exploration of a route to India by sailing westward. Instead, in the Nina, Pinta & Santa Maria, he ran into Islands off the Americas. He has historic billing as the person who discovered America, but his actions have left a cloud over his reputation. He died in his home in the Spanish city of Valladolid, buried in Seville after which his remains were taken to Santa Domingo in Hispaniola. In 1902 he was re-interred in Seville in the Cathedral.
