Oatlands, Leesburg, VA Photos

Oatlands, south of Leesburg, VA, was started in 1804 by George Carter, great grandson of Virginia's Robert "King" Carter. After his death in 1864, his wife Elizabeth took over management of the farm through the Civil War. The last owners were William (d1921) and Edith Eustis who hosted Franklin D. Roosevelt. When she died the estate was given to the National Trust which gives tours of both the house and elaborate gardens. Oatlands is on the National Register.
