Bearing the faces of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln, Mount Rushmore has become a visual symbol of America. The granite mountain face was carved (1927-41) by John Gutzon de la Mothe Borglum (1867-1941) who trained under Auguste Rodin in Paris plus his son Lincoln Borglum. |
