Rookery Building by Burham & Root, Chicago Photos

The Rookery Building (1888) (12 floors) (209 S. LaSalle St.) by Burham & Root was when built one of the tallest buildings in Chicago. Using a combination of masonry walls & iron frame it is an example of the evolutionary road to the skyscraper. Burham & Root had their own offices in the Rookery and as Daniel H. Burnham was the chief planner of the Chicago World's Fair (1893), many of America's most famous architects of the time met in the top floor Library. Frank Lloyd Wright designed the lobby of the Rookery.
