St Augustine Castillo de San Marcos Photos

Castillo de San Marcos (1740-2) was a Spanish fort dedicated to St Mark, built to protect Spanish treasure ships as they stopped at St Augustine before embarking across the Atlantic to deliver gold & silver to Spain. The fort was in turn used by the British & the Americans as they took over the Florida territory. Today the fort is run by the National Park Service.
