SOM partners Louis Skidmore (1897-1962), Nathaniel A. Owings (1903-1984) & John O. Merrill (1896-1975) built a firm which still erects major commercial buildings of note including the Sears Tower (1974) in Chicago, Lever House (1950-2) in New York, Hirshhorn Museum (1974) in Washington, DC.
