Palm Springs & adjoining Palm Desert, east of Los Angeles, grew because of reputations as warm winter retreats where movie stars went to play golf & swim. Consequently the most notable features of the region are resorts & wealthy homes. An Aerial Tramway up to San Jacinto State Park, nearby Joshua Tree National Park & Living Desert Zoo & Gardens expose visitors to various ecosystems.
