California Mission Photos

Built by the Spanish to support settlement & Christianize Indians, missions stretched from San Diego to San Francisco & beyond. They were spaced about a day's horse ride apart along the El Camino Real (King's Highway). Missions are listed South to North with year founded. California towns took their names from the missions, so town names are given only if different from the first two or three words of a mission name. Stained glass images of missions are from Mission Dolores in San Francisco.
